Day 7: Athens

This may be a little too brief… Sorry! It’s 12:45am and I am sleepy!

Today we went ALL OVER Athens! First, we headed to see the changing of the guard. The kids were excited to go stand by them and get a photo with them. It was a neat experience. Then, we saw the stadium from the first modern Olympic Games held in 1896. It was massive! After that, we headed to the Acropolis to see the Parthenon and the Temple of Athena. That view was UNBELIEVABLE. Wow. One of the really interesting things that I learned was that the Parthenon isn’t actually square. It’s curved to create the illusion of being straight and being larger than it is. So crazy!

After our tour, we were able to get lunch and have some free time in Athens. We had delicious gyros and shopped and explored all over. There was an outdoor flea market FILLED with all sorts of things! The hot item was a jersey and we found many of them! Finally, we headed back to the hotel for dinner and squeezed in a quick swim in our rooftop pool – it was HOT and the view is so beautiful up there!

After dinner, we headed back to the metro to see the Acropolis lit up for the evening. We decided to climb Mars Hill. It was an amazing view as well and seeing the city all lit up in the sunset was breathtaking. The kids also really enjoyed riding the metro – many of them for the first time!

Tomorrow morning we leave Athens for our Greek Isles cruise. We are PUMPED!!

I am not sure when/if I will update. There will probably be wifi, but we can’t be sure. Either way, we are going to have a LOT of fun – can’t wait!! (:
